The NBTC attributes the growth primarily to the Netherlands' eastern neighbors: 7 million Germans are expected to visit the Netherlands this year. That is more than ever before and around 13% more than in the previous corona year 2019.
More tourists are also expected from the UK, as the British have long suffered from entry and exit restrictions. In addition, travel restrictions in China were only lifted at the beginning of 2023, meaning that a (sharp) increase in tourist numbers is also expected from this side.
